So I saw online that you could make brownies with a box of brownie mix and one can of pumpkin puree. I’m all for a super easy recipe so I’m at the grocery store and grab some Betty Crocker Fudge brownie mix and a can of Kroger 100% Pure Pumpkin. For both it was under $4.00 so even if it was a total fail I wouldn’t be out much money.
I take the box of brownie mix put it in a big white bowl and then put the can of pumpkin over top of it and mix with a fork. I needed a little bit of water as I was stirring to get it into a nice thick brownie mix.
I did this at the main house so I didn’t have any small pans so I just used whatever baking pan was available. It was way to big so I tried to shape the batter into a square the best I could.
I put the pan in the oven on 350 degrees set my phone timer to 25 minutes and let them bake.
Ok here is where I have to get honest. When I first took them out the middle was nowhere near done so I put them in for another 20 minutes. So now at 45 minutes I was able to take a couple out that were finished and I needed yet another 20 mins. So in total it took 65 minutes (1 hour and 5 minutes) to make this small batch of brownies
I’m not going to say it was a fail but would I do it again..probably not. I’m not into baking for that long and they were very sweet but yet knowing that I still put confectionery sugar on them!? The texture was more on the soft fudge side nothing like a cake. I tried to get my family to eat them an it was a no.
There response to the brownies is what made me think of this skit I put on Instagram:
I would give the pumpkin puree brownies like a 3 out of 5 stars. They came out ok it just took too long to make. My recommendation would be the Vegan No Bake Brownies. I make them all the time they are quick not to sweet, no oven needed and they have the best taste in my opinion.
Here is a video explaining how to make them:
I’m glad I experimented with the Pumpkin Puree Brownies it’s nice to know you can substitute egg and oil with a can of pumpkin puree. Just make sure you set aside at least an hour to bake them. I will be sticking to my Vegan No Bake Brownies in the meantime.
