I love DIY projects and especially when I can replace a store bought item for one I made by myself. I have used countless hair cream removal products for legs, underarms and arms (yes some people shave their arms…don’t ask me) but nothing has compared to making my own DIY shaving lotion from scratch at home. The shaving lotion I make lasted a year or more and is much more cost efficient than anything on the market.
Yes! It’s super cheap and affordable to make and you probably already have what you need in your home to make it and if you don’t you can get everything you need for $5.00 at the dollar store.
My biggest reason for making my own products is not just cost but I know what is in it because I made it myself and have the control to choose what fragrance the end product will have or no fragrance if that is preferred.
I have no idea what is in the store bought products but it has no protection for people like me with bumpy skin. So when I’m shaving I have a problem with bleeding from cuts with the razor. With the DIY shaving lotion that doesn’t happen I think it’s a mix of the baby oil and conditioner that keeps your skin from getting cut. Also as a bonus your skin is smooth afterwards even when you get out of the shower which doesn’t happen when I use the store bought products.
This is one of the most easiest DIY beauty products I’ve ever made! Took me all of about five minutes and then you have to let it set for an hour then shake it up and your good to go!
Your going to need an empty jar or container, some measuring spoons (dollar store), and some paper towels (it can get a little messy)
The recipe is:
(1 ) Cup of Shampoo
(1) Cup of Conditioner
(5 ) Tablespoons of Lotion
(5) Tablespoons of Baby Oil
(Note: All my ingredients were from the dollar store but if you prefer certain lotions, shampoos, conditioners this can be customized to fit your needs according to your own skin type)
Mix up all these ingredients into a jar (stir very well) now let the mixture sit for at least an hour. Stir or shake it up and it’s ready to use. When using I would shake or stir every time because the homemade products can tend to separate while sitting. A little bit goes a very long way! All that is needed is about one teaspoon for each underarm or leg when shaving.
Make sure to label your DIY Shaving Lotion and store somewhere cool and dry.
Here is a Youtube video I made on this DIY shaving lotion at home. I wanted to share this do it yourself process with my subscribers since it was so easy, frugal and effortless. It’s a great hack for us penny pinchers and frugal fanatics out there (I myself am a self-proclaimed cheapskate) I hope you guys enjoy and try the do it yourself shaving lotion recipe at home. Don’t forget to drop by on social media or leave a comment. Have fun experimenting!
