I’m seeing there is a mix up with people calling themselves bloggers but not having a blog only an Instagram. So I decided to break each one down so it would be less confusing to the new audience getting into this type of field.
Let’s start with blogger because this one is the most misunderstood and misused.
A blogger has a stand alone website where they post content to usually made up of written articles, pictures and occasionally added video. If you have a blog you have hosting and a domain name. This is a blog and the domain is www.melleindie.com and it’s hosted thru godaddy.com and if Instagram and YouTube both disappeared my blog would still be standing. The only way your blog goes away is if you don’t pay for your hosting and domain name then you lose it. Okay so we got that one out the way let’s move on to Social Media Influencer.
SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCER
Ok so if you have a nice following on Instagram, Twitter and even Tik Tok you are now considered a social media influencer. You have a nice sized audience that you can persuade to buy products and join programs in which bigger advertisers value and will pay you for. You might also be referred to as an Instagrammer or Micro Influencer (If your Instagram page is smaller like 5k-9k followers) It all falls under the same umbrella. THIS IS NOT A BLOGGER! If you only have an Instagram that is not a stand alone website. Instagram is a third party website you participate in. A blog you built up and created yourself.
Here is a huge reason you don’t want to confuse being a social media influencer and a blogger. Just for example a well known advertiser comes along and says “ I want to do one paid Instagram post, an Instagram story with a swipe up link and a blog post with backlinks to the product no less than 600 words” Let’s say the advertiser was going to pay $2,000 for this package. You now have to tell them you don’t have a blog and either loose the whole opportunity or take way less money. So my advice would be to get a stand alone blog/website set up immediately if you really want to be a professional social media influencer.
VLOGGER | YOUTUBER
This one is easy! If you have a YouTube channel you are a YouTuber (lucky you!) and if you put out vlogs weekly or daily you are also a vlogger. Most people know the difference between the vlogger and blogger one writes post the other does video…very simple.
If you are trying to take this seriously and be looked at as a professional for the long term I would suggest getting a blog/website with it’s own domain, have an Instagram and a YouTube channel. If possible put them all under the same name. If that’s not possible it’s ok just find a way to link one to the other and let people know each name which will be harder to remember but at least you’ll be getting yourself out there. Don’t wait till tomorrow to be great start today! Thanks for reading deuces!
